Today (22nd April) is Earth Day. A day to bring awareness to environmental issues.

This Earth Day and beyond, let’s make big stuff happen. Let’s plant 7.8 billion trees for the Earth. Let’s divest from fossil fuels and make cities 100% renewable. Let’s take the momentum from the Paris Climate Summit and build on it. Let’s start now. And let’s not stop. Learn more at earthday.org

I want to use today to remind every parent buying baby food to ensure that you recycle or re-use the packaging. Please never throw it away in the bin.

Glass jars baby-pouch-wasteare great for using many times before being recycled and so many things can be stored in them. Food pouches can now be upcycled or partially recycled when sent to specialist recycling centers such as Terra-Cycle. Ella's Kitchen sponsor this scheme and it saves many pouches from ending in land fill but this does take a little effort to either send off packages of 5kg or more yourself or finding a drop off point that can manage this.  If you can't find a local drop off point you could always talk to your local baby group or nursery and ask them to collect pouches from parents and send off to Terra-Cycle in bulk.

Of course you don't have to buy baby food and snacks in single use / disposable packaging.  You can make so much your self and store it in so many types of packaging. Our reusable pouches are just one of the options out there that can help save waste as well as providing an easy feeding solution, help you save money and ensure that you know exactly what your little ones are eating.

If you are interested in our reusable pouches check out our store and take a look at our recipes.

And so it begins. Today. Right here and right now. Earth Day is more than just a single day — April 22, 2016. It’s bigger than attending a rally and taking a stand.
